Professional Counseling - Master of Arts

Convenient Class Schedules

The program is structured to allow you to pursue your master's degree while balancing the rigors of work and home. Classes meet Saturday from 8:30am to 4:30 pm and on weekdays from 6:00pm to 9:30pm. You have the opportunity to complete two classes each quarter.

Professional Counseling Competencies

Graduates are expected to achieve skill competence for professional counseling behaviors that include but are not limited to:

* individual counseling
* small group counseling
* family interventions
* consultations
* diagnosis
* assessment
* treatment planning
* counseling program management (including outcomes assessment and program evaluation)
* client and/or professional advocacy
* community intervention
* crisis response and/or counseling
* application of professional ethical and pertinent legal standards

In addition, graduates are expected to achieve knowledge competence in subject areas that include but are not limited to:

* professional identity (including professional ethics and legalities)
* social and cultural diversity (including multiculturalism)
* human growth and development
* career development
* helping relationships
* assessment (including standardized and non-standardized techniques)
* research and program evaluation (including basic statistics)

At the completion of the didactic portion of the program, you will take comprehensive examinations to gauge your knowledge competencies of the material covered. Skill competencies will be demonstrated throughout the lab portions of the program and through field experiences in the practice and internship.
